Finally the Government's guidelines for the hair and beauty industry are in place! Our industry falls under the 'Close Contact Services' area - here's how the Government defines it:
"Close contact services include hairdressing, barbershops, beauty and nail bars, makeup, tattoo and spray tanning studios, spas, sports and massage therapy, well-being and holistic locations, dress fitters, tailors and fashion designers.
This guidance is also designed for those who provide mobile close contact services from their homes and in other people’s homes, those in retail environments and the arts, as well as those studying hair and beauty in vocational training environments."
The full statement, which is updated by the government as necessary, is at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/close-contact-services
Only hairdressers and barbers are opening on 4 July; other services will be advised when they can open. However this is the guidance under which they will be able to operate so the same products are required. It's now our job to help you get compliant so the first group can open on July 4.
The two key pieces of PPE all hair and beauty practitioners will need are visors because of working near a client's face, and a fresh gown for each client. We have good supplies of both products, plus all the PPE and salon equipment needed. Click HERE to see it.
Although they're not mandatory, many hairdressers and barbers will also want to wear face masks, and you might also want to provide them for clients for reassurance of both staff and clients.
The key products to maintain safety in the workplace, whether that's a salon or visiting a client's home, will be hand sanitiser and sanitising spray, plus 10" or blue roll for wiping down work surfaces and regularly cleaning visors. Hand washing remains a priority. We also have packs of sanitising wipes which are very convenient.
The workplace poster is below - it indicates you've carried out a risk assessment and are ready to get back to work!
