Hairdressers in England must wear face masks & visors and close contact treatments resume from 15th August

Yesterday on Thursday 13th August, it was announced by the UK Government that all professionals who provide close contact services including hairdressers, barbers and beauty therapists in England will need to wear a type II face mask and visor that covers the face, from Saturday 15th August.

The new guidelines were put in place following newly discovered evidence, provided by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), as well as consultations directly with the hair and beauty industries.

These new guidelines apply to working inside and outside of a salon environment, including freelancers.

Not only this, but facial and eye-based treatments can also resume from 15th August. These close-contact services include:

  • Intricate beard work
  • Microblading
  • Eyelash and facial treatments
  • Eyebrow threading
  • Facial massages
  • Facial waxing
  • Make up application
  • Botox

Alok Sharma, Business Secretary said “From Saturday, salons, spas and other close contact services across England will once again be able to offer all services in a way that is safe for workers and clients. Opening up the economy is conditional on our continued success at controlling the spread of coronavirus. Therefore it remains essential businesses comply with Covid-19 secure measures to protect workers and the public.”
